I Used Too…
Being from a family of just three,
My dad, my mom and then just me,
I did think that all was the same,
Boy, was that knowledge ever lame…J
When I was able to drive,
I did visit my cousins to derive,
A feeling of how families really were,
Sometimes I thought it better to be in stir…J
At the dinner table I do recall,
Sitting there and enjoying their dinner meal,
It had this homey, family kind of feel,
All the kids arguing, the parents at either end,
Trying to keep the kids from killing the other,
Their knowledge they did to the kids lend…J
In our family we did not have a dinner “table”,
No this is not what I did dream; it is not a fable,
My parents ate at the kitchen table,
And I ate in front of the TV, or in my bedroom,
The crumbs I dropped I would clean with a broom…J
So when I do now find myself enjoying a “family” dinner,
I do watch what goes on, taking it all in,
As well as the food, I wouldn’t want to get thinner,
As I have no family left, any chance I do get to share a dinner meal,
I do take and welcome and know for that moment in time I am a winner…J

We were seven, always fighting each other,
like the streets weren't bad enough.
