Poem Artwork

When I was young

Dad & I went together shopping

Always on Friday night to Ocean City

Dad would food shop & I would look for records

A special little record shop was around the corner…J

He used to buy for me one 45 record a week

They cost less than a dollar & for the Beatles I was a geek

As well he always took me to the Woolworths

For sometimes food, but the best was their banana splits

In a balloon they would put a ticket with a price

Pop the balloon and pay that price

Sometimes it came out FREE and that was particularly nice…J

I remember sitting in dads old Chrysler 300

And listen to the old AM radio as loud as it would go

Just a plain old radio & one dash speaker, not even stereo

But I thought myself pretty cool sitting in the drivers seat

These memories don’t come often,

But when they do they are really quite NEAT…J

ED - aaah - those were the days, my Friend ...

My Dad didn't drive, and when my Uncle Ben died in 1947, Aunt Honey gave Dad their old 1937 Chevie. It stayed parked inside our garage for about 12 years. I used to sit in it and pretend to drive, and listened to the old radio when the battery wasn't dead.

Yep, the good ole days ... TK

Wow, we really do have a lot in common, Bro. My very first job as a kid was swinging a mop around in one of those delightful old Woolworth stores, with the neat soda fountains and ice cream shoppes in them.

And my best friend's Dad owned one of those Chryslers; we spent many a summer night sitting in it, listenin to the radio, and pretendin we were drivin cross country.

Those truly were - the Good Old Days.

When PeeWee isn't around, it is me to give you a friendly clap of approval for those well written memories of really, compared with todays, good old days memories, when life was simpler.
The complication came when everybody learned how to read and write, then was when the S***T hit the going ga-ga big fan...
