Again, trying to remember the good times before I was about 12, for after that it seemed life went down hill...e
--------------------------------------

We played many military like games,

Sometimes on a ship, a houses porch,

Sometimes the same porch was a fort,

Fighting off the Germans & Japs,

Anything was a gun, but bamboo poles were best…

I think we were as destructive as any kid at times,

Breaking windows, throwing eggs & water balloons,

Picking on younger kids, though now I wish I didn’t,

Just needing something to make us feel important,

Till we got to high school and discovered doing lines…

Skinny dippin’ in the bay,

Till friends moms came out and told us no way,

So young we were, who cares about our futures,

Broken bones, cuts & bruises, never needing sutures,

I sometimes wish my folks were still alive,

I would wonder what about me they would now say…

Skinny dipping and broken bones...why I didn't recollect those memories? maybe that world of mine wasn't that happy as I want to believe.
Great poem lil'brother but Ma is gonna read about you "discovering hou to do lines" and she can handle a mean birch tree branch like a samurai!

sounds like a fun life--so young, naive and innocent--all that goes away too soon

Paul Anka sang "The Times of Our Lives," and your poem is like watching it sung on TV with the sound muted. Loved it, as I just supply my own musical accompaniment to your poetry and play White Rabbit while reading it. Rare as your poetry is, when I find it i immediately want to be in the same state of mind you were when it was written. Bottle a little of whatever you are smoking and send it my way!
