Poem Artwork

Twelve miles to home,

No bus now to take,

Walking home on the beach,

But a hell of a long walk,

Good time to myself then I could talk…

Really calmed me down that twelve mile trek,

Though the wind, sun and sand did my neck burn,

Walked backwards sometimes but usually fell on my ass,

Better that, cause walking backwards wasn’t very fast…

The only obstacle, a ¼ mile wide channel,

At low tide one could all the way cross,

But it was mid-tide when outgoing is fighting incoming,

To be wherever they can get in the fastest time,

Glad I dressed lightly that day, & wasn’t wearing flannel…

Used a stick to feel my way while wading,

Sure I HAD to find the deep spots & fell in,

What the heck, it was hot, and the water cool,

And by the time I walked the remaining 5 miles,

I’d be totally dry again & for mom, in time for dinner, all smiles…

Walking is so marvelous, it allows us to see and hear so much that we miss while driving all about. And I would pay to see you walk 12 miles! Call old Cuz Cur and ask him if he wants to take a little hike with you!

Might have been worth waiting for the "early" bus. ;-)
