Makin' the Scene, Man...

I was struck by this memory while trying to get to sleep one night...who knows where these things come from...?

In August of 69’ I turned fifteen,
I wanted to make the Woodstock scene,
But dad & mom said no, I thought they were mean,
So I went anyway, they wouldn’t know,
They were in Europe, makin’ their own scene…

Three days of sex, drugs & rock n’ roll,
With the emphasis on drugs,
Had from “older” women many hugs,
Acid, uppers, downers & pot,
Slept in the mud, didn’t have a cot,
Cared for nothing but drugs,
Always searching for a booster shot…

Then came Jimi, his guitar was magical,
I became that day a consummate radical,
I supported all drugs, no matter the kind,
I just wanted to get out further, further from my mind,
Well my parents did eventually find out,
Thrown was I from home to the street out,
Moved into a tent, on the beach,
Surfed all day, did drugs all night,
To the local drug scene I had become a knight…

But it had to end eventually as school started,
I was well hooked on meth, pot and acid,
I was heading towards a meeting with a casket,
No rehabs did they have for kids back then,
So with the help of my best friend, drugs and I parted,
To this day I still wish to get high, to re-make the scene,
But we all know that ain’t gonna happen, right…?

Propaganda takes over where drugs leave off. Drugs is the lesser evil.

In a way, you were lucky fellow to get the peak of the era's music scene. You are unlucky in that, at a young age, got hooked on the drugs that help you forget what you wanted to forget. And are still forgetting.

At that time I wasn't available for scenes like that, but I did catch the scene in the San Francisco Bay area earlier, going to some great concerts and catching some of the great bands. I was turned on by the music and not the drugs.

the friend was a good one, in '69 I was in the land of Uncle Ho and didn't get to Woodstock, glad you did though.

God Bless Burnt-Out FlashBackers ! On August 19th, 1969, I was 6 days away from my 29th Birthday, making a $139. Mo. Mortgage payment on our 1st Home, and practicing making our 1st Baby, Ann, who was born on June 5th, 1970. Working full time as an Assistant Manager at Hopkins Univerity, and a Senior in night school at The University of Baltimore. Graduated June 9th, 1970.

n weekends, I had a few Bourbon Manhattans made with Wild Turkey 101. Wifey Dear made me swear off of them tho, cause I became a Wild Man after 3 or 4.

Never really did any drugs or weed, knocked down several Kegs of beer tho... Have Belly to prove it!

Always was a Party Animal 👹😸😜👹.

I didn't make Woodstock, but I did enough damage to myself in my youth, that it's a wonder I'm still here. Still, if I had to do it all over, I probably wouldn't change a thing. It's a part of what I am today. Best of luck to you.

Never did drugs. Only smoked pot. And that not a lot. Found it interfered with clarity of thought. Woodstock was a time I've never minded forgetting. Too much deception. The 'Atlanta Pop Festival' was better. Fun stuff bubba. Enjoyed. r

Ed. You fought quite a battle. You had chemical warfare going on inside you at one point. I give you a lot of credit (and your friend)!

I sure hope that isn't gonna happen, Ed. I understand where you're coming from completely, although I didn't make Woodstock, glad I didn't. I became strung out quite nicely all by myself. I know, it's fun to look back at our craziness, but looking back is all we should do, not revisit it for real.
