A pain in the ass sometimes he could be,
Still he was a great friend to me,
We rarely spoke, though it was nice to know he was nearby,
I can't get him out of my head,
I wish instead of him I was the one dead...
A dear friend I lost yesterday,
To heaven he did die & fly away,
On my last visit I got a picture,
While he was still happy & gay…
We’ve been friends for just over 30 years,
I considered him one of my two best friends,
It’s funny though I cannot understand why,
I have not really been able to have tears,
I just feel like I wish I was the one to die…

Sorry about your friend, ED! Grief does come, sometimes it takes years.
It is strange that you hadn't mentioned much of him, and now, not even his name. We each have our own feelings about death. So far I have taken death of friends and family without tears or grief. That may change. Only we control we deal with these things.
Your fine and fitting poem is a great tribute to your friend. Life is a precious gift he'd want you to have, and proceed accordingly--that's what I'm thinking.
Ed. First of all I'm glad you are still around. You are in the beginning stages of grief. I agree with La Belle Rouge. You have built a monument to him using your pen. God bless!!
Ed I'm so sorry for your loss. The grief is too sharp for tears now, they will come soon, let them flow. Hold your memories close. It is a great blessing to you and to Gene that you had such a wonderful friendship.
