Talking to Dad...

He passes by occasionally in a dream...

Poem Artwork

Of late, I find myself talking to dad,

Though one sided I find it kind of sad,

I haven’t spoken to him like this since I was a young lad,

Though he may not speak, I enjoy talking to him, I might add…

He was always there when I was young and awoke with a scream,

He calmed me and cajoled with me, sometimes I even got ice cream,

He could always see right through any of my schemes,

And now I only get to actually see him at night in a dream…

He passes by quickly now, I don’t quite get how,

But just to awake and remember, gives me a feel of his presence,

To feel anything related to him I find to be pleasant,

I would gladly accept in some way his return as a Christmas present.

I find this a most moving and meaningful tribute to your father, Ed. Nicely done. Love and peace to you,

As you grow older, it seems to me that your father is the one thing in your life that you really miss and that's why he comes to you in your thoughts and dreams. You have written a tribute without thinking it is one. It's something for you to hold onto. Good job.

My father was, in some ways, more immature than I was. He was a good provider, but a bit selfish in his small pleasures where he escaped from the hard work he put in just to raise us to adult and out on our own. Like your father, his fondness for treats, often had him buying some for us, too.

There are many times I'll hear my dad's voice, saying things I've heard over and over before. It helps me to walk a straight line.

It must be pleasant to have a sincere conversation with one, or both, of your parents. However, in my case it would be more nightmare than pleasant.

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear. Very touching, Ed. Peace. r

I believe the people have passed are still around us, waiting for us to join them. I hope to see them one day. Your father might be more eager than most to see you.

A great poetic tribute to your dad. Many of us are not so fortunate. My dad was injured during WWII, he had a chip on his shoulder and he was a man I hardly knew. But I thank God for my wife as her dad and I was like glue. For he was the dad I never knew.

Standing On My Knees by Pinkstone
