The radio in the picture is similar but not the actual model

Poem Artwork

When my dad was a kid he had one,

He passed it down to me his son,

He built a shelf above my bed,

I never worried about if falling on my head…

Into the wee hours of the morning,

We listened to people talking & ships at sea,

The radio was hooked to an antenna on the roof,

We lived in three story home right next to that sea…

Who knows where that went all these years in the future,

Just another memory dumped in some junk yard,

Now it gives something to write about for this bard,

When dad & I would argue, that radio was the perfect suture.

I didn't have one, but I wouldn't have enjoyed it.

Ouch! What a way to stitch an argument! A fond memory in a poem. In my youth I remember people who had short wave radios. And then, everybody had to have a CB radio. Never got one.

Yes, where did all that junk go? The Antiques Rodeo Show!

You hit upon some genuine memories with this post, Ed. You bet my dad had one we listened to regularly.

Memories! I remember a childhood friend's father having one of these. Fun stuff! I believe he had a unit in his car and belonged to a club. Was that the same as "ham radio"?

Love ya!

I still have an old transistor radio that's shaped and designed to look like a baseball, and it still works.

Wow....Back in the 60's & 70's I had an Emerson portable SW, AM, FM & Other frequency bands & listened to them all, especially the AM Band that that was so good that it could pick up Off - Shore Pirate Stations....

ED ... great memory !

Reminds me of set my bro in law Jim had. It was more modern, with beautiful
tan leather case. Short wave I think he called it ?

Just listening to ships at sea, and people talking in foreign languages, and I think
CB'ers also. To a kid it was fascinating. No one else I knew had anything like it.
At the time, it was "Hi-Tech" !

It had a long telescoping antenna that you could move around and wiggle to get
better reception. It had a big dial, with several lines of station numbers.

Like you said, probabably on some dump heap somewhere !

Today, what we have with the internet and satellites and Skype & all the other
Stuff is so far advanced, it is mind-boggling !

Google & maps & Waze navigation, with warnings of speed traps & cameras &
vehicles on shoulders, etc.

By the way, Pard ... Youse is a good Bard 😜😜😜

✌️✌️✌️
