Jail

Not much of a rhyming bit of poetry, but need sometimes to just get things out, what an excellent sounding board writing gives...

               “JAIL”

Not the place to go to for social

           uplifting,

Not a place to go to learn a special

             trade,

Not a place to be if you are afraid to be locked in,

    Nor if you are claustrophobic!

Fortunately for me it was the right thing,

As I was guilty of the crime I was charged,

Probably the only one in there that felt right,

Took me off the street to learn who I was,

Yes, they have some pretty good therapies,

               inside…

My major fear was not of being raped,

Nor of anything that could happen inside,

But I was afraid of being released,

Would I do again what got me busted?

Would I be one of the statistics?

It’s been 20 some odd years,

     Since my release,

     It all wasn’t easy,

  But I fared pretty well,

Good supportive friends and parents,

Is what is needed for a total recovery,

I hope I stay clean for the rest of my life…

Ed,
You told this very well, and it tells all of us that you aren't a loser. You learned from your mistakes.

We live, we learn. Excellent the way you told this story. Most people don't learn and you know what Ed, losers never try.

Excellent work!

Emilie
