bAY TRIPPER…
NOT QUITE A SONG BY THE BEATLES,
THE NAME OF ONE OF MY BOATS,
AN ALUMINUM STARCRAFT WITH 75 JOHNSON,
NOT MEANT FOR THE OCEAN, JUST FUN.
She was a 16 footer, windshield & fold down seats,
she moved along quite well, but as a kid I did beat,
out in the ocean, bouncing her through waves,
rivets falling out, leaks started there.
she went down with a storm,
tied to a floating dock,
the dock did get stuck low in the water,
and the boat, tied there, sat low and flooded,
went on board to untie the bow line,
the boat did flip and I went into the deep.
Dad just said, “he will come up,” eventually,
towed the boat over to the mechanic,
flushed out the cylinders & changed the plugs,
she ran again well, but never as she did, initially,
sold, she was, as I got to be old enough for cars,
my interest in boats did wane,
a good time in my life,
did pass without notice,
just another of life’s changes,
good memories now & for future ranges…
