He Sees the Idiocy of Life…(what can we do without HE?)

Funny what one finds when down & depressed,

He sees the drudgery of the down trodden & repressed,

He sees what is wrong in the world, in his little corner too,

He sees how it is for others when they are also blue,

He notices things that previously he did not see, right on cue, it seems…

So many things out there to be seen, so many atrocities, so many schemes,

Yesterday he saw, and took a picture of same, how a person can live,

On the edge of a main road, in the woods, in a tent,

How does one get that low, to exist on little, to live without rent?

The world is so harsh, that person’s world is just so much marsh,

For he lives on the edge of it as well as the road, almost like a toad,

Living from hand to mouth, without that of a house,

Just a little colorful tent, his clothes hanging from limbs so bent…

What would it take to bring that person back, into the fold of humanity?

To get him cleaned up, to have him work, maybe even that of a soda-jerk,

Just so he does not have to live in a tent, in the woods on the edge of the world,

I remember a box, in center city Philadelphia, many years ago, I was young,

Too young to sleep in a box, under a railway bridge, out of the rain and wind,

But still there for all to see, to wish it could not be,

Still not to give me,

Any help, but to be glad it was not them…

So many things can happen, he sees this in the world, but to help everyone,

Is a difficult trail to trod,

Can give away all we have, to the down trodden, but then what will we do?

He sees he can give some part of his life to those with more strife,

Children on the streets selling their bodies,

Just to get drugs, just to get a meal, to have a warm place,

No matter the deal, pain or hurt, they have to live,

So they kill themselves each day only a little they say,

From the inside out, their pain we cannot see,

What can we do, without HE…?
