There once was a fellow called "JFK"
Who at one time was heard to say...
"Ask not what your country can do for you.
ask what you can do for your country?"
There now is a fellow called "JAC"
that would just happen to be me
who quite often will ask of himself...
"What can I do for my country?"
Maybe not much, but I can give it a try.
This country today is a complete ineptocracy.
It is my fear that this great nation
is on the road to self annlhaltion.
So... let's take it just one step at a time...
starting with the Congress of the USA?
Members collect salary while in office, none when out.
No pension... no tenure would be a good start.
It may not sound like very much
but much needs to be done to save the country
and I feel totally helpless the way things are.
I offer one thought... what can you do?

You are a "doer" while a great deal of the country's populace are takers. Interepret that as you see fit. Change? It will happen as society puts into place leaders with "balls" who "tell it like it is"! Hmmm... I wonder who that might be? Any guesses?
When JFK made that statement, most of the college students that I was surrounded by were draft dodgers, would cheat every time their simple minds found a way to, neglected their studies for beer drinking and idiot activities, didn't give a rat's ass about anyone but their family and circle of friends, and planned to go to work for their parents, teach with a lot of perks, or work for a company for life with good benefits.
They had kids and they voted… Our downfall. I agree with your suggestions and I have many more. Our legislators should be unpaid citizen servants. We need to take money out of politics as much as possible.
