I remember a girl in class known for her lovely looks
In college with her in the summer of nineteen eighty.
It was a post graduate class of literature
The final passing out year in a district in Central India
Those days girls were carefree and went to study
For want of anything better to do
She wore her smile in such a style
It made young girls look pale
Loved by all for her lively attitude
Never a moment of gloom in her seen
And with a name Sapna which means a dream
She was indeed like a dewdrop pure and fresh
She believed in the charm of youth and beauty
And in her presence there was magic as well
With her awsome nature many were in her spell
In the hot weather when the sun was blazing
While others move around
Covering faces from harsh heat and dust
She was cool as ice, her skin would glow,
With a sweet smile and poised grace she moved
Always with something nice and witty
Had that extra spice in life
Way ahead girls of her time?
When exams came over our heads
We poured over Shakespeare’s sonnets far more
Sleepless through nights and on days worked hard
Dwelled over history of literature, one last time
Verses from Chaucer,we struggled with old English
By heart lines of Milton’s Paradise lost
Dante’s divine comedy, indepth the translation
Works of Shelley, Keats and the nature poems of William Wordsworth:
“I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;”
In summer heat, cramming English poetry
Made our hearts and minds dizzy
But for sweet and pretty Sapna it was a cake walk all along
She took her exams, all dressed in style
Never the strain shown on her face
On her slender frame, with sleeveless blouse
Starched and pressed soft pastel colours
Sari draped around her slender waist
The light pink gloss on her lips
Would be seen through the day
Very much like a breath of fresh air
She appeared to be dazzling away
She came to class, took her exam,
All glamorous like a beauty queen
While others like us felt the world was cracking
Dishevelled and stressed
Fretted and fumed, cranky and out
As if our heads would break with burden
She passed with flying colours easily so
We envied her but all loved her too

.effortless beauty and poise...something all us women would love to possess...
Diana....
As I was reading, I recalled the sweetheart of our college class, Sandy Carlson, a platinum haired beauty that was a cheerleader and into many things. One of those girls that I would have loved to date, but never did. A few years ago, through our alumni news, there was a note that she was missing from the class rolls. It made me wonder, how someone so vivacious and with so many friends, would turn up missing from her classmates.
At least here in the United States, we can generally track down people either through searches or through paid services. You might try that in India.
