A story poem

Poem Artwork

An elephant and a sparrow  were great friends

Until the day when sparrow called the elephant fat

This annoyed the elephant . he got so hot

Ordered the sparrow to get lost

“You are a silly little bird, said he

Always hopping around

Like a ping pong ball

Good for nothing you be”

In window sills your droppings left

You creepy self,  you tiny bird

The sparrow hurt, now quietly thought

What is there for it to compete

With the might of the elephant right

His ego as big as himself applied

It once saw him run over a couple

Simply  they were clicking his picture

Up close they  came near him

Never expecting any harm

 All of a sudden

The elephant lost its head

Trampled them to death then and there

 So the sparrow quietly left

Putting up a brave front

Although the sparrow felt badly

 It loved the elephant dearly

Proud the little bird was of its big friend

Enjoyed the free joy rides now and then

By  neighbourhood lakes when it moved past

Watching  clear skies and  scenes below

Llittle fishes somersaulting in  air

The time for Kingfisher to make its dive

While  lovely maidens  made a dip to bathe

In clear waters their pretty reflections  made

All this now no more it could enjoy

With a heart so heavy it flew away

The sparrow still waited for a call

Anytime the elephant needed the bird

It said, " I am always there to help".

These were the parting words the sparrow said

The elephant laughed it  away

Thought what help can he have

From a little scary hopping bird

Of nuisance value to all around

Then one day it so happened

Some insects quietly crawled up the elephant’s tail

And made its home on its  back

It was feeding on  the elephant ‘s skin

And he  could not  do anything at all

The pinching bite the insects made

It grew worse with time

At last when he could not bear  it anymore

It made him roll with pain

Elephant called for the bird to intervene

The sparrow at once flew to  his help

Pecked and removed the insects all at once

Till none of it was left

The elephant was friends with sparrow again

And never did they  fight

Ever so often the elephant gathered

A bunch of  ripe rice  stalk  for the bird

This for the sparrow to build its nest

And rice to feed its little birdies nice

 Happy the  little sparrow’s tweet.

It quietly watched  the world pass by

On elephant’s back, its favorite spot

Like a guard proudly on duty it perched.

Making nests from time to time

Where birdies broke out of its little eggs

 Happily it lived ever so

With an elephant as its companion big

Good to see you posting again. While there are some problems with the delivery that could be corrected with editing, your intentions with this story are quite good about how people can disagree and be quite different, but still get along.

There actually are many instances where birds and large mammals have a symbiotic relationship that benefits both. Here in Texas we have an Indian immigrant called the cattle egret. For a while a few years ago, they established a rookery in the trees in an abandoned lot two blocks from my home here in suburbia. Cattle egrets follow cattle in their pastures and eat seeds from the dung as well as pick insects off the cattle.

The rookery attracted a lot of other birds and animals to the neighborhood. People cut the trees down to get rid of the birds, considering them a nuisance. Our neighborhood is less attractive as a result.

No matter how small there is a purpose for all as your story tells so very well.

Love ya!

All's well that ends well according to the Bard and the bird.
Still, I would like to have seen the sparrow hone his dive bombing skills on that Jumbo Dumbo. :)
