THE FAIRIE TREE
On a long ago forgotten trail,
A winding path over hill and dale,
Leading to a place where serenity flows,
A land of magic where the Fairie Tree grows.
With long slender branches flowing to the ground,
The Fairie Tree is the fairest around.
Shaped like an umbrella, its branches fan out,
Providing a home for fairies as they flitter about.
Part the branches aside, and step under the tree,
Shielded from the sun, filtered through leaves.
There’s an old stone wall where you can sit and rest,
As you watch the fairies playing with zest.
From leaf to leaf, the fairies dance,
But watch closely, you’ll only get a glance.
Do not disturb them, or get to near,
Fairies are shy and will disappear.
Just sit quietly as the fairies take wing.
If you’re lucky, you’ll hear them sing.
Alighting on leaves, they never stay long,
Enchanting you as they sing their song.
Watching fairies will fill you with delight.
In rainbow colors, they’re a wonderful sight.
Fairies are special with the magic they weave.
Visit the Fairie Tree and you’ll believe.

In my carefree youth, I always found the early morning magical with floating seedpods in the air, birds singing and chipmunks or squirrels scurrying about, but I never saw any fairies, only bees, butterflies, dragonflies and the like floating about amid the grasses and trees. I was always curious to look things up for what they were in the encyclopedia. There were no fairies there.
I went fishing with my grandfather or watched him work on the farm. So I guess I missed the best part of growing up. Having my grandfather take me to a tree and tell me to imagine something that doesn't exist. Funny, but I've seen a lot of books with illustrations of them, so I know what they look like even though I've never seen one. ;-)
