His last words.

 THE OLD MAN

The old man sat down and wrote,

“These words will be my last.

Daylight grows short,

And the skies are overcast.”

He poured out his heart,

Words falling like sheets of rain.

Each line flowed into the next,

Becoming a river of pain.

He wrote of his life,

Of times that were mostly bad.

Now approaching the end,

He was both glad and sad.

He wrote of loneliness and loss,

Of all the tears he cried.

And when he finished writing,

The old man bowed his head and died.

When words like rain fall on a whitely page, it's bound to be meaningful. I enjoyed your poetry this evening Michael, xo

You are famous for your punny, and often hilarious, poems. But you have entered a new realm of poems of the human condition that will make you famous in that genre as well. Kudos.

Ah yes, I see a little bit of myself in this poem, except for the end, I am not yet ready to "bow my head".

That's the way to go. You finish writing. You said all you had to say. You put down your pen and die. Maybe he even got to write "The End."

If that is the way to leave this plain, then I am going to try writing like this man did, maybe I too can move on...-e-
