You offer wise counsel with your words, Mary. Sometimes it is indeed best to say nothing... ...listen to the silence and let your heart do the speaking. Your poem reminds me of a song by Alison Krauss, "You Say It Best When You Say Nothing At All."
While I believe that the heart is merely a pump that was once thought to be the source of the mind, your poem speaks to the unspoken ways that we communicate that sometimes go unheard. Marvelous.
Wow! Such a GREAT poem with a timely message for all. That is the story of my life Mary! One time I wanted to yell at my daughter when she came home very late. I knew she was drunk so if I set her off she would walk out the door. Instead I told her that I was very worried that something happened to her and that she should know I am her daddy and I will love her forever and she will ALWAYS have a home to come to. She hugged me and started to cry. Wow! I almost acted mean like my father but in two seconds Jesus gave me the RIGHT words to say. Thankfully we have Jesus who provides us wisdom in tough situations.
Yeah . . . I can relate quite well with this very nicely thought out poem, Mary. The tongue and the heart have dissembler ways to go about getting their message across. If it is possible allow them to merge before speaking. If they will not allow themselves to merge then by all means just listen and say nothing. This is an exceptional bit of poetry, my friend.
