Very true but sometimes the hurt is much too deep.

What do you do when you truly forgive a person, but, they hold a grudge against you? It feels so good not to have any bad feelings in my heart for this person, yet, it hurts me that she really hates me and talks so bad about me, and I never did anything to her. It is a not a complicated situation, just a sad one. I feel sorry that she harbors ill feelings, but I feel good knowing that I don't. She has the problem now, not me, right? Very thought provoking write, Mr. Broome! I enjoyed it very, very much.
Reading Kate's review below I realize she says it better than I ever could... Some things simply cannot be forgotten and it has naught to do with forgiveness.. and sometimes the forgiving is not up to us. This is an excellent poem.. one of your best, dear friend.

Coupled with Joseph's gracious comment beneath me here, Bill, these are words to live and gain peace and security with. I find that forgiving is the easy part... forgetting the hard. It's not that one holds any grudge or anything... just that some memories are engraved in indelible ink somewhere. Perhaps forgiving not withstanding the inability to forget is equally as healthy... unless you are daily reliving the pain. A thought-provoker, thank you. K xx

Real forgiveness comes with the realization that we all have need of it.
CJ hit the nail on the head here...many a time I thought I had forgiven, then somehow, found myself in the RE-...
But now I have re-alized that regardless if they haven't learned, and you know they haven't reciprocated, it's still OK to hold onto your own forgiving nature in order to continue on, always in the know of " Well, I tried and God help me in this constant realm..."
Enjoyed this~

Excellent, Bill ... this is so true. But, sadly, that only works if the one forgiven stops doing the things he has been forgiven for. Your poem made me really think about things -- an excellent write here, my friend.
