Antique Hubcaps
It is an old and well cared for car
and it is loved
I love the smell of it
the chug-a-lug of its engine
and the comforting feeling of
reliability it gives me
I love taking it out on a long drive
alone
because driving it wears on me like
an old sweater
after all week in a plush corporate car
Like all old things my car lost
one of its hub caps or wheel coverings
and a brother-in-law and I set out
to find a replacement in
auto junk yards but none was found
My wife's brother often shows signs of
cleverness and this day he was
brilliant
in suggesting that we look for
two matching hubcaps for the wheels on
the side of the missing one since
no person ever sees but
one side of a car
In no time at all we find a suitable
matching pair
