Michael Crichton, b.1925, went to Harvard Medical School and began to write paper back novels to pay his tuition. By the time he finished medical school, he had decided to become a writer. His decision, he said, "Struck most people like quitting the Supreme Court to become a 'bail bondsman.'"

A Writer is What?

Not who, but what is a writer?
One who must write above all?
A person who has to have a say?
An extoller of verbosity in print?
You or I doing what we live to do?

A writer is any and all of these,
and, an individual who writes
for appreciation of the special
messages for readers, without
which, there is no fulfillment.

For a writer to know peace in
life, he or she must write, even
when the results are worthless.
as a part of an uncontrollable
compulsion to produce words.

The writer knows that writing
improves with practice and a
determination to do it better,
and, following their star, some
deserving ones write to success.
