Grits is, not are, porridge-like,
made out of select ground corn. .
Grits Is - Not Are
Until a recent news item, most
everything had been written
about grits. In 2007 grits hit the
big time, when it became an item
in posh Manhattan restaurants.
As s Southerner, don't cheer too
loudly until you hear the price;
$3.50 for a small bowl, served
with butter. If you're not a grits
eater, you may stop here, but if
adventurous, buy a bag ground
in the South, and "fix" them in
several ways. Cook books are a
bad bet, so ask a kind lady who
has cooked the stuff for a few
decades. Most small towns folks
mix them with bacon, but grits
take on a flavor with fresh butter
or a gravy. For me, eating grits is
best with overlight eggs, lean pork
sausage patties by two hot biscuits.
And, grits is full of fiber, too, for
your tasteful digestible breakfast.
My sons loved grits. They were to gritty for me [sorry, lol]. It's amazing all the foods we ate as children have now become the "thing" to eat, and at outrageous prices. Even a bowl of oatmeal at most restaurants is $3.95. You can buy a whole box for that much and eat for days.
Please, lets not forget the tomato gravy when Rainbow Trout are served with fresh ground grits from a nearby mill. Each time I go to your north Georgia mountains I get my grits by the sackful outside of Helen, Georgia. 've founf some really good ground grits at Montezuma Georgia that the Mennonites mill.
Man oh man...you have my mouth watering.

Susan

Just one thing... you put gravy on grits in my bend in the bayou and it's a sin punishable by going to the confessional!! LOL.. I love grits myself... once was a staple in my diet...
Oh my friend, the memories you've brought back...I loved to eat grits at my mamaw's house on Sunday mornings and still enjoy them today! My daughter and one of my granddaughters also love grits. We were raised on grits...we called them rough grub! Who would've believed that people would pay 3.50 for a bowl of grits! Not this mountain girl! Enjoyed this my friend!

i spent some time in the south and worked in a few restaurants-grits went with just about every breakfast served. Grits were always kept hot and ready-
Contraband Marriage, traveling along the hemline of loving after incarceration, is a love story written in lyric and free form, set in reality with a different ever after.
