The Village Chief
This is for all the newly minted war experts
Those who know what we should do in Iraq
Their sureness reflect superior knowledge
About why the US should not fight terrorists
Having seen Ken Burns' "The War" (WW II)
What I saw and heard about events back then
It began with a village chief wanting much more
Even after controlling five additional villages
His henchmen fear not to kill and take villages
And so it goes - greed for more territory and men
The Chief convinces the people of better times
and more food from the slaves who will serve
Does this sound familiar about any place today
The citizens of Germany and Japan know better
People always know if they know their history
Now we know why wars are started and fought
Bigger and badder is the downfall of many countries - history does support this. Question - what's going to happen to the U. S.? Your poem makes me wonder what's in store for the younger and to-be generations of our great country.
