When I was barely thirteen
my air rifle made me a winner
at the carnivals visiting town.
The little yellow ducks would
spin after I shot altered rifles
to make bullets miss targets.
I simply aimed a few degrees
to the right or left for bingo.
By summer's end, I had a lot
of kewpie dolls to share with
pretty girls from school who,
shared their favors with me.
For a few weeks they called
me Dead-eye Dick when my
name was really not Richard.
Wonderful reflection, William, those were days when life seemed so much simpler and our wishes always within our reach. Happy New Year!

Sherry
Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
