Born with little confidence
he began life imitating
those he learned to admire
the ones who spoke well
a few with proven talent
having an air about them
At social events he knew all
but none actually knew him
a voice of multiple accents
an enigma even to himself
he was one person today
completely different later
Ingratiatingly harmless
resources or claims never
checked due to no interest
seemingly his own man
friends more often left
the 'Put On" to himself
A man who wears many faces, lives in many places. None his own. The very credentials great thespians are cursed with. I was. I have been. But I shall never be, the real me? And yet the truth of me shows so easily through. Another great poem Bill. Jon Michael Willey
I think that we all know someone who we call "The Put On" sometimes I think those people are afraid of failure or lack of acceptance...you've penned it well my friend!

an intersting write--i think one must mingle with those in higher status in order to learn how to arrive there if that is what they desire--it is a difficult thing to accomplish, i think
I often felt like this when I was younger...better to blend than stand out but as age moved me forward I realized we all have our own voice and somthing to say...so now I am me...
Always find a self rightious man to be interesting if only short lived. Most often what is said can be deduced to nothing anyway. It ends up a waste of time and conversation with a person of little ethics except their perception of themselves.
Dear readers, this is my third book of poems, and inside are a special collection of what have turned out to be not only MY personal favorites, but also the favorites of many of YOU. Some of these have never been available in print before...
Blessings,
Joyce B.
