A Rare Bit Of Rarebit *

Since learning about how she got breakfast
I'm compelled to pass the story on to you.
It is one almost impossible to believe by
young housewives and their modern mates.
But, my friend, Lucille, who was born and
'raised' in North Georgia's mountains is
only 93, come April of 2008, and still drives
her Cadillac, a model of the late eighties.
She can still shoot a gun with good aim,
but back when she was a new bride, and
the years of child bearing and raising, she
got breakfast by stepping out on the back
steps, aiming her gun inside a tree, and
knocked a big squirrel off of a big limb.
She tells of walking out to get the dead
animal, bringing it into the kitchen, to
'dress it,' before battering its parts with
flour paste before dropping into a hot
oil skillet for frying up family breakfast
I believe every word she says, because,
Lucille doesn't tell lies about anything,
and besides, she always bakes a plain
cake for me when Christmas time comes.

A great write my friend, she sounds like a character indeed. I would like to sit down and talk with her, I know she would bring many smiles, and much laughter...well done my friend my husband loves fried squirrel and rabbit. Usually just floured, fried and seasoned to taste...good thing he don't count on me to go hunting for them...he'd be mighty hungry. I don't have the heart for the hunting, I'll just fry sausage or bacon. Enjoyed this poetic tale, keep em coming...I know there's more where this one come from.
Blessing,
Joyce B.

She 'aims' to tell a good story. I am sure it is filled with truth, as I remember the stories my Dad told me about - back when ... A tough life, but one filled with honesty, hope and love.

God bless you. Kathy

I for one am staying out of Lucille's shooting range. Stay nice to her especially for those plain cakes.

Peace and cheers and cold beer,
Dan

I love stories like this...about people and their past. Makes me wish I was sitting out on a porch swing, listening to her tell me one now.
