Dinner parties are too often exercises in futility
All that fuss just to serve good food and talk
Making a lasting impression on others
It can be done without china linen and sterling
Or the major gratification a woman needs
A recent evening proved exhilarating at
A supper of brains wine and plain cooking
Four friends each younger than I
Brighter than most we tolerate over coffee
Revealing higher level knowledge and opinions
Even kicking the political ball around
With reserved temperament and volume
In hours since I feel better about a future
About jobs and getting a fairer shake
Believing that we see the problems
And solutions will be worked out
How else could I come away from brilliance
To be applied by new generations
Witch must recapture our nation's ranking
In a trade world of greed already sinking us
A cautious word - the US has been here before
