They wonder how wide
is that between them
a difference in age
how to meld into families
of the one to be loved
making decisions that
change many lives
Each having lost a mate
grief and memories
replacing togetherness
leaving both wondering
if caring again is possible
For one the interval has
been a shorter one
the other a deeper grief
made easier by interests
Taking a deliberate
chance could reward
each of them more
years in love's comfort.
Reminds me of my Mom and Step-Dad. He was 19 years older than she - both had been widowed. It worked! They were married for 37 years before he died. I'm glad they took a chance. We, kids [Mom's 7], were truly blessed.
I think grief and reaching out for new love is such a peronsal and individual issue. As much as we would like to be able to reach out sometimes that fear of losing it again is there and it's real. Sometimes taking the chance is just as difficult as not taking it.

When love is lost that is deep and passionate, whether through death or separation, the fear of loving again only to find out that a new love does not come close to that of the one you had is very real.
