A dear friend of mine is dying. His favorite movie is, Driving Miss Daisy, a 1989 film starring Morgan Freeman, Jessica Tandy, and Dan Aykroyd. My friend asked that I post this poem as his favorite of my writings.
Meeting Miss Daisy
I don’t talk to bus-riding strangers
don’t answer questions
nor respond about the weather.
Today is different
she’s all dressed up in styles decades old
too elegant to be a threat.
Her serene manner emits
dignity and graceful style
a bearing approaching royalty
when she smiles I melt and return it
Greeting me in a voice of tinkling chimes
telling me it’s a fine day
my rusty baritone replies
It is a fine day
a beautiful and remarkable day
a day I will remember as long as there are
ladies endowed with quality and class.
a very blessing to give to your friend. Words carry on forever when they are shared in this manner. that is a great movie and one of my favs. there is comfort in your words and yet there is joy also.
Questions, unquestioned discoveries, and answers in parable and rhyme…. This collection records a journey starting with a 1960s retrospective and the first man on the moon, moving to a new millennium welcomed in with a terrorist spin, family crises,
