He never learned the science of music, nor
did he show a talent for playing instruments.
Beginning in grade school, he liked to
hear good music by the known composers.
Through the years other interests claimed
his time and reading music never happened.
A dependable familiarity developed allowing
him to listen with an open heart and appreciation.
Radio and recordings offered hours of
enjoyment and education to his experience.
A favorite could bring him to silent tears before
the spirit lifted to a low evangelical shout of joy.
He knows that the power of music allows him to
leave his wonderful world and return during
a symphony concert, recital, or in a recording.
Also, he is aware that talented musicians bring to
him intense pleasure through costly fine instruments.
And, much of it happens despite his limited knowledge,
perhaps, not unlike the enjoyment of a jet plane ride
without knowing exactly what makes it fly so easily.
His quest is challenging, hearing the music of
immortals, along with today's contemporary classics.
In his deep love of good music he is as we are;
captivated by its pull and power for human pleasure.
He keeps in mind the poets of old and writers of
today, who compose poems new and different,
totally convinced that such words compliment and
support the exquisite notes of his beloved music.
Although I do read music and can play several instruments, it is not that which draws me to the sound of music.. I am drawn in when I look into the heart of the song and hear its soul whispering to me. This is what my piano instructor once told... listen for its soul
You are so right with this, Bill. Music can easily make us become thoughtful, sad...and turn a blue mood around and make us smile, depending on what we're listening to.
A wonderful heartfelt tribute to music an art that inspires us when we are low, comforts us when we are down, and encourages us when we are weak...well done my friend!
Blessings,
Joyce B.
Music and poetry are as one and in my mind almost every write I do is a possible song. My guitar playing ability is limited but I tell people who ask me to play and sing (campfires mostly)the drunker they get the better I'll sound...
