Don't they know about us, the ones who do it anyway?
Don't they believe that our nervous systems suffer, too?
Don't they want to overcome shyness, and speak out?
How do we convince them that we, too, are doubtful?
How do we verify that our speaking to others can be
as discombobulating to us as it might be to them?
How to assure our support when they agree to begin?
We who take chances to express our sincere thoughts,
invite the shy ones to share with us different thinking.
In no other way can we learn the opinions to be offered
in the sciences, commerce, the arts, music and poetry.
You are so right, for although I think I now have too much to say far too often, there was a day when shyness ruled my life and it often kept me from doing what I needed or yearned to do.
