Hearing a radio interview about eating
and services emphasizing diet dishes
I knew I was older than any of them
when the guest began describing an
innovation in finding organic vegetables
and fresh fruits grown by local farmers.
The revelation was the selling of fresh
products from, "a kind of a bookmobile"
The lady spoke about the way my young
mother bought veggies when I was a kid
From an old beat-up truck with slanting
shelves on both sides displaying the best
of the crop on which Mama depended
They made healthy scrumptious meals
which she cooked for our hungry family
It's funny but I can't remember any of
the trucks driving by with books to read
We grew and sold our own vegetables but I do remember the truck that came around, along with the bread truck and milk truck.. and I remember the 'bookmobile'... ))
And I do remember in the fifty's an old guy going from neighborhood to neighborhood, selling his vegies. I also remmember, once a week a huge old grumpy guy came to our house with a huge block of ice. Sadly though, no book vendors.

Memories, brought back through your words - we didn't have trucks with food driving around, but do remember going to the garden, picking something, washing it and eating it - organic, before it became a fad - but I do remember book mobiles! LOL Well done.
