My getting there was never a problem
until that last birthday when a drivers'
license testing lady and her machine
ruled that I wasn't qualified to drive
due to chronic eyesight delinquency
I had seen it coming so the blow was
not hard to take since my eyes were
suffering from macular degeneration
That's medical talk for near blindness
leaving enough sight to get it done
After driving since 14 - I was without
a way to go and return when I wanted
and that took adjusting to the time
others could take and bring me back
Their kindness is a highlight in life
Telling all of this to friends recently
I said that the loss was a lot like losing
my manhood - to which one woman
objected to the comparison - my reply
~ And I notice that you are not a man
Sir Bill, One of the highest quality of a man (or woman) is to know how to adjust to adverse situations. It does not matter that you will not drive, we will still benefit from your wonderful gift... twisting and turning mere words into gold.

I do understand the frustration but as I've always said I was one of the lucky ones who lost her sight as an infant... I know nothing else so have nothing to compare it to... but does it make me less of a woman? Hardly...it limits your freedom yes but not who you are.. just my opinion of course..)

That's one of my biggest fears: losing my eyesight. I'd much rather be deaf or without speech than not being able to see. Sorry to hear of this, Bill; you are in my prayers!

I can certainly sympathize with you on this one for the same thing happened to my bil about two months after he retired in which he had planned to buy a motor home and travel. Men do have a love for their modes of transportation and turning 16 and getting a licence is one of the turning points of boy to man so you are right in what you say.
