Secret Celebration

The afternoon given over to each other
We clean house and straighten up the basement.
Kids overnight with grandparents
No telephone would dare ring
The neighbors believe we’re downtown
At seven we shower and dress neatly
Microwave dinner for two is served
In soft candlelight we eat slowly and we talk
Clearing the table and dish stuff can wait
An anniversary celebration is special
With love’s gifts wrapped in layered kisses
We have until morning for things left undone
