A woman of mystery becomes plain and in trouble.....

Aunt Pearl, On Daddy's Side

The woman was always fun keeping
others wondering what she might do
She went into town every Saturday
but no one knew where in town or
what she did or perhaps a someone

We remember the Saturday the call
came from the hospital telling Daddy
about Aunt Pearl's broken ankle she
suffered hurriedly stepping off a bus
his sister refusing to explain more

Later in her hospital room he learned
enough to get his needed help with a
long-kept secret from back in the days
when she worked and lived in town-
Aunt Pearl had a son but no husband

Daddy stayed overnight in town to
talk deeply with Pearl's ' husband'
who told that she and he were about
to be married soon after the recent
death of his loyal and devoted wife

The son was Albert adopted by his
father and long-term childless spouse
a beloved quiet wife and the woman
who knew about the child's origin
and the love of the three on Saturdays
