My Closet

We all have past issues, hurts, pangs and things in our closets that hinder us from being our best and having our best. It is up to us whether or not we live forever connected to those things that do not matter or if we make a serious change for the better. We all have physical closets that we clean out but, we can not forget about the spiritual and emotional closets that get full too.

I'm cleaning out my closet,
Tossing away all my old things,
Removing from myself, memories of hurt and pain;

As the new year arises, my change is coming through,
So I'm throwing out the old, making room for the new.

My closet use to be full, of every kind of thing,
Past pangs, underpants, hurt and misery,

T-shirts, sweat pants, shirts, shoes and socks too,
Broken promises, lost allowances, and things I never knew,

I've held on to this suitcase, filled with life's guilty pleasures,
Fake chains of silver and gold; along with promises of a better treasure,

In the pocket where the mirror and makeup were supposed to be,
Were all the lies and games that they told and played with me,
Family, friends, enemies and strangers too,
Broken promises un-fulfilled, now what was I to do,
Other than clean out my closet so, that I could start anew;

I forgave each one of them, as I passed them along the way,
From the coat hanger to the bag, and out the door they went that day,
I was determined forever more, this hurt it could not stay,
So I packed them up, brought them out and sent them on their way,

Everything that they gave me, that made me hurt inside,
I passed it on to someone else, so I could be revived,

They said it was meant to make me happy, said I'd be better off,
But nothing didn't get better, until I finally shook them off,

Although I was grateful for the closet space, that I had,
I realized that I couldn't share my present with my past,
If I expected even for a moment, that my future might just last,
I had to let go of the things I did know, that were destined to overshadow the flash,

Yesterday's troubles no longer fit my waist,
The pangs of physical abuse no longer stared me in my face,
Because I chose tomorrow, yesterday had to go away,
And cleaning out my closet, helped bring forth a brighter day,

I didn't have to worry anymore, I didn't have to fret,
Once I cleaned out my closet, old things I did forget,
I was no longer filled with doubt, worry or regret,
Those things that reminded me of such, were no longer of effect,

Once the bags were packed, all trash laid bare aside,
I took a long hard look around, at all things once laid inside,

The memories I cherished, many had gone along,
But I was so busy covering yesterday's traces, I never heard the song,
And that might explain just a little bit, why life had gone all wrong,
But it's okay, I found my way, the Lord guided me all along,

And when I took a final look, at all that did surround,
I noticed the problems that once buried me, were nowhere to be found,
Not one of them in sight, not one of them around,
My life began to look much better,
The minute that I cleaned my closet out.

Be Blessed

Author Notes

I encourage anyone and everyone to let go of the past and trust God with your present and future.  Your past was meant to be just that, though sometimes we forget.  Just as we clean out our physical closets in our homes and workstations, we must be willing to clean out both our emotional and spiritual closets as well.  You can be healed in full of all past, present and future ailments, if only you will try and trust God in the process.
