Soldiers
They were all forced to go
They were called one by one
To fight for the freedom
Of their daughters and their sons
They stood arm in arm
With guns drawn in their hands
They would never turn their back
On their own native land
The fields were lined
With the young and the old
Lines painted in red
Marked where the enemy would fold
The dark air full of fear
With shadows owning the night
They sat below holding pictures
Just praying for the light
They left no one behind
War was never a game
They marked graves of the dead
And where they were laid
They left their helmets
Their tags and their guns
But remembered their smiles
That shone like the sun
They continue to come and go
And battle for their flag
It’s more than we can ever ask for
In the presence of today
They still stand for their country
And show it on their sleeve
They fight for the red and white
Because this is how we bleed
