I agree with Michael. I still remember all the basic nursery rhymes and fables. Most of them had some ghastly lesson hidden in those magical words. But some kids just love to be scared so they can keep their parents up all night worried about what's in the closet or under the bed. I prefer that they would just rest their sleepy heads and not have bad dreams.
Your poem brings me back to a time when I was little and my grand ma arrived from Italy. She was the best story teller in the world and she told us stories of warriors like Sir Lancelot, while mending our socks.
