The Bridge of Time

old don't care to want for change
young can't wait to make for change
old don't often fuss and fight
young will fight to prove their might

old is wrinkles, frail and pain
young is smooth, strength and gain
old is past mistakes all made
young is mistakes yet to make

old is desire most long gone
young is desire for which they long
old is solid, tested and mature
young is passion, fast and allured

old is knowledge, patient and astute
young is ignorance, waste and aloof
old is temperance,companionship and prescripitions
young is drinking, sex and addictions

old is thankful to see each day
young just want to pass the day
old is content to just there be
young can't wait to up and leave

old is paths long been worn
young is paths to open new doors
old says "I've been there, done that"
young says "My turn, I want to try that"

now young and old have been all along
to be old meant you once were young
so don't judge yourself too harshly now
for just yesterday you were there

and if old could cross the bridge of time
and be beside his young in prime
to whisper gently in his ear
"this old one day you'll be my dear"
