We can learn a lot from history. After Cain and Abel, the Bible tells us that whole groups of unwanted people (usually nonbelievers) were wiped off the face of the earth in genocide. We now have chemical and biological toys that can do it very efficiently without having to get our hands, "up close and bloodied."
And, believe it or not, even though we have reached maximum lethality in an exponential way with the hydrogen bomb and delivery systems that can completely annihilate entire continents, the death toll has gone down when compared with slaughters of the past like World War II, the United States Civil War, and the slaughter of Roman soldiers (actually, well-trained slaves) by barbarians and the reciprocating slaughter of whole barbarian tribes like Druids in retaliation. Not to mention Genghis Khan… So I won't.
The first thing that happens to a gun in the home is that the children know how to find it, unlock it, and play with it… Bang bang.
When will we ever grow up?
