Your Own Way

from many paths I sought to know
the one that surely I must go
forthright and straight I hoped ahead
would lie the path for me to tread

but being swayed by things too long
by things I thought that once were strong
did not survive the smallest storm
and fell apart at every turn

for many yield their own advice
from what they think they know is right
but in the end it's not their plight
you must decide for your own life

if love you seek to know it's true
observe true lovers, what they do
if wealth you seek and that's the goal
then see their scarifice for gold

if fame to seek and world acclaim
then seek the path of those attained
if youth is sought for in your bones
know once so young were those now gone

if in the dark the light you seek
don't stumble looking at your feet
or looking backward in retreat
to thus relive your past defeats

so listen for and take advice
and examine paths that others try
but know if you along just ride
then a passenger you'll be for life

so determine to this pledge to make
best make it while still young's the day
while many by your side will sway
rather seek a path that's your own way
