... I read somewhere today that polar bears are always left-handed... I know I'm gullible, but is that true ?!! :)) Anyways, feelin definitely like a bear with a sore head at the moment and about as clumsy as grizzly with two left feet... Hence a write that goes with it... But hey... still smilin!! :)) LOL K xx
BIRDS ON THE WIRE
The pigeon swings on an overhead cable –
like a fatuous cleric, his overlarge body
puffed-up in stuffy vestments.
Craning his neck to study my movements,
his pitted eyes agog with “I say! I say!”
His dog collar is back to front, he’s unsure of his own
footing, but still he considers me unsound.
I point my cocked finger pistol and bang!
He was right.
I blow.
The dove carries no deadweight,
exercises no comparative judgement.
Her tones soothe and her soft-grey plumage
speaks of a purity spun through multitudes of washing.
Preening her wing she signs like a gloved hand;
deft fingers spelling out a message of grace.
Mute ambassador of a forgiving god –
not deaf but long-suffering and always on target.
I smile.
Loved this! Had a chuckle too. Oddly these are the same bird just different color. ;-) A dove's taken to resting on my lawn. Had to stop my cat from going after her a couple of times. Fantastic write, Kate. ~~Nordette
Awesome characterization of these two creatures, Kate...preachy pidgeon...I'd blast him with my finger as well and welcome the soft coo of the dove...God's messenger. What a knack you have for conveying a poignant message with a subtle sense of humor too...
Wishing you well , Kate.
Love, Taylor
Unsound? I don't think so! Purveyor of God's grace? Exactly!
Beautifully written, despite not feeling well, Kate. Hope that changes soon!
Prayers & Love to you, Rhonda

Oh, Kate dear...what an absolutely delightful piece of work! I
especially enjoyed the vision of the Dove, as there are a lot of them by my house, and on the feeder, and they do indeed act that way.
Hugs to you from the States.
Wish I was a polar bear, with all of this heat. I'm left handed...does that partially qualify? ANY WAY, Kate, this is sumptious writing at its most comforting best! Well done, hope you're feeling better soon. REAL soon.
perfect description...wonderful words...I'm sitting here, two days into a bad headache and this poem soothed me...like seeing an old friend, silly loveable bird!

And say. I'm a little dove and I like a little love..
LOL birds do give that. "Who coo are you coo?"
They're even cooing outside now. Nice one KOO KOO Kate..
This one has a toehold...talons grasp it!
"speaks of a purity spun through multitudes of washing" and I have to say that this line is very cathartic and ironed crisp with poetic starch and it wears well, and I think of flipping the bird southpaw! Very perceptive write, Kate...
Very well written kate...with a such vivid imagery I could hear the bang!!

Your one description here (puffed up stuffy vestaments) gave me a great mental image of a cross stitch line of birds that have the funniest expressions yet look realistic-I really enjoyed this lighter side-be well-Michelle
I see the wonder in your eyes and the humour in your smile, instead of the bird poop that people hate the doves and pigeons for you see their beauty and their wisdom. Sweet Kate your finger pistol so easily turns to a brush soft and gentle in your hands. Fee
Just goes to show that you don't need to be in the right mood to produce poetry. Once again I was blown away (ahem...forgive the expression) by your use of figurative language. The imagery you create is always breathtaking. I especially loved the image of the dove preening 'she signs like a gloved hand' What an original and elegant way to put it. I also enjoyed the contrasts created between the 'puffed up', arrogance of the pigeon and the purity of the dove.
I smiled right along with you at the punch line.
Absolutely marvellous!

Homer's Ill Iliad & Odd Sea Odyssey (420 pages) is an adult satire/parody rewrite of the classic stories of the 10 year Trojan War and of the 10 year adventure of Odysseus trying to return home to his native Ithaca.
Wishing you well , Kate.

There is a grave shortage of goodwill and humor in the world today..
We could do with that dove carrying the olive branch again..
