FALLEN


I’ve fallen

feet first,
head over heels
out of luck,
out of bed,

into love,
across the tracks.

Fallen from grace,
fallen foul;

fallen out of favour
and into faith.

Fallen into a trap,
a game, a steady slow march,
a flame;

under a spell,
into the fire –

whatever fallen is,
I have fallen for it.

And fallen, as Alice will tell you,
is a life-changing experience
not entrusted to the wise
nor surrendered to the perpetually

upwardly mobile.
