THERE’S AN ANGEL IN YOUR POCKET


There’s an angel in your pocket
wherever you do roam;
she’s getting kinda comfy
and thinks that it’s her home!

She’s tossing out your sweet wrap
and turning out your fluff;
she’s busting up your cigarettes –
she thinks you’ve had enough.

She darns the holes and fixes tears
with skeins of golden thread.
She harvests sun and moonshine rays
when you’re all tucked up in bed.

And in that way she makes quite sure
you’ve coins enough for living,
and even that you’ve more to share
to pleasure in the giving.

If one day soon you find her gone,
don’t think that she is messing;
it’s just that she’s been called away
to others in need of blessing.

Don’t worry that you’ve tossed her out
or lament that she is missing,
it’s just that there are tear-stained lives
she knows she should be kissing.
