Just loggin on to say Hi! and to keep the flag flying... Sadly my bubbles are still all popped and me energies are completely flat... A real downer considering we are sposed to be on family vacation. But all will be well. Here's my attempt at a Burnside grin! :)) K xx

SOUL AND SPIRIT

Spirit cannot be harnessed
and calls no man master;
it prowls in the darkness,
sleeps with one eye open.

And why it purrs is no-one’s business
but its own.

Soul attaches to flesh with longing;
delighting in pleasure, shamelessly
beseeching with those big,
puppy-dog eyes. Helpless,
it drools, and has no pride,
timidly seeking a loving home.

Across the safe divide, spirit
and soul regard each other
with a mutual disrespect:

one with tail wagging,
anticipating frolic and
a wayward romp;

the other solitary on the rooftops,
doggedly contemplating heaven.

I am still figuring out the difference between spirit and soul. I know soul is a spirit and as Jude says it was given a body. The spirit? Maybe the feeling of adventure in man? Not sure. Still a mesmerizing poem. Victor

i like what you did with this comparative analogy of spirit and soul ... you've managed to make very insightful points in the differences between the two ... a point i'd like to make is, the body doesn't house a soul, it's the soul housing a body and both are intrinsically separate from the spiritual force transcending both body and soul ... i like how you personalized their parallel yet unified forces ...

I never thought about spirit and soul separate
but now that I've pondered that, I suppose that
as long as we're flesh and blood we are separated
from spirit. Hence the sadness because we can't
in this life be pure enough. No fault of our own!
Just the way it is and there goes the saying so
goes life. Big Hugssss Kate! You are on vacation
and ya gotta grin.

The soul is made of finer stuff and lives in the body learning the lessons of earthly life. Soul from flesh slowly does unwind until we are pure spirit at the end. And that's the beginning of indescribable happiness, a union with the good/god people on the other side. ken still on

Kate,

Gad, I wish I could write like this. The classic battle between good and bad penned in deeply moving introspective lines: please. Keep smiling that Burnside smile and I'll add a StormSpinner one to give you strength! :) Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Because of the media frenzy over trivial matters God fades for some and for others we're enforced with like peoples who believe. Please, believe. Believe in the little things and smile within yourself for the prize is there.

Thought process - neither dogmatic nor conclusive ... rather an 'in the moment' extrapolation of an artist that I respect ...

Oh my God ... did I admit that in a public forum?

"Spirit cannot be harnessed"
But Spirit dwells in human flesh, and spirit is the real reality, not the corporeal reflection, and the spirit of the matter always elucidates on things we are incapable of discerning in our limited intellects.

Here all the elements collide; vivaciousness, intellect, creativity, ability to express, respect, dreams, and the actual ability to realize dreams "IF" there is the focus, and energy, and positive feelings that we all have come to depend on as the muse of our artistry.

Is it only about being up and feeling the way we think we should?

Satisfaction and success dwells in the grips of something that defies category, but often moves upon the heart and soul as a thick fog; hiding, diffusing, distorting. In our pride do we really think we can re-invent the Bible? The times when we feel least inspired are the times when we should reach out the hardest in faith, not to those benign, but to those that provoke!

Heaven is great to contemplate, but the heaven that Jesus Christ bought for those who believe, and obey, is not subject to modern interpretations. I think the saddest thing about this whole artistic process is that no one really, truly, understands anyone.

Ah dear Kate this one rings so true and we tend too often to confuse the one with the other. My soul has a tendency to ache wheras my spirit will soar and pull my soul out of the pain it often endures.
You showed me a new aspect of this that I have not noticed before.

Your amusing and accurate romp in the verbs and words may help solve my dilemma; a constant fight between spirit and soul. Defining the entity and then the role it is to play... not to mention how I'm supposed to related to the cats and dogs of my household. This is amazingly good work. As I've said; We must keep you feeling poorly and with the sniffles... to get better poetry from your germ addled brain; there's no other way! I commend you on this one in a special way. - Bill
