I want to wash when I meet a poet.

They’re Reds, addicts,
all delinquents.
What you write is rot.”

My hair is lies-infected
and my mind’s foul content reeks.

My armpit breeds insurgency,
my mouth with rancour speaks.

There’s junk in every orifice,
rebellion clogging up my pores;

my putrid immorality
is seeping through your doors.

My dis-eased palms you will not grasp,
disgusted by my flaws –

these wicked stains I manifest
are certainly not yours.

So walk away, go wash yourself
and put on full protection.

But what I’ve got you gave to me:
I am your soul’s reflection.

Like walking onto a cliff and getting a blast of ocean breeze in the face. The last line is a brilliant summation KB; you are in a league of your own.

Whether my poetry moves upon anothers soul positively or negatively makes no difference to me. The most entertaining actually, to me, have always been the most disgustingly negative comments - as if they are trying to re-shape your soul with their pedantic negativity.

Nice work Kate, the reality of prejudice and descrimination is one which seems not to want to go away, as poets it is almost our duty to express from deep within of ourselves and of the truth that bears witness and truth that seeks to escape from our minds and display our soul's....

G K Chesterton had it right, only poets, authors and artists are the sane people. More truth in fairy tales than philosophy, bar poe most authors die happily. philosophers end up killing themselves one way or another... More truth in Alice than Tolstoy or voltare, who died screaming as he saw hells fire...

Humour or nay lass, you have a beaut soul...

Electrifying words from she who knows! Your take on this situation would be extremely difficult to exceed. Thank you for the mirror you hoist for we who live in a world of misunderstood poets... who occasionally wallow in our own pig mud. It must be their refusal to see beauty in something that appears to be one step higher than they want to go.

Thank you for this gem Kate! Amazing isn't it how some people just don't get it about poetry and poets. I always said it is the inferiority complex which makes people who are ignorant assume superiority, for they do not understand.Therefore I can pity them...

Prejudice even against poets? Hmmm... Well that is a First Admendment right over here and what a nice rhyming little ode with a stinging message. I could think of a few "Politicos" I'd like to send it too... And your bio said something that you've only been writing a few years! Ha... that must be fiction

You are so right on with this one Dear Kate and I know how you feel. After living through the sixties where the singing poets of Dylan, the Beatles, the Stones changed the face of society that maybe the politicians and power brokers had a reason to fear poets...poets as you say force people to reflect on all aspects of life including their own pitiful souls and consciences. Strong strong write here Kate...
