today every utterance is poetry! view of modern poetry strictly in jest with no wish to offend anyone.
'I sat on a rock
The Sun went down
As aunt Agatha strode.
The flowers bloomed in the meadow
And she died alone'
Any Hindu, Muslim, Jew or Goy-im
Will tell you- that's not a poem.
Just a few stray thoughts
All tied in knots.
Phrases at random
Are very seldom
Enjoyed by common folk
And that's no joke
They do give a dime
For rhythm and rhyme.
But it seems the elite
Of poetry, in conceit
Or exclusivity, delight
In things out of sight
Of the common bloke.
Or its some inside joke
Which we do not get
Just wonder and fret
What happened to poetry?
Its wonderful symmetry
Lyrical and sublime
With rhythm and rhyme.
Is it now passe?
Or is it blase?
Seems now its a crime
To write poetry in rhyme!
I believe that the tradition for using rhyme started long before poems were written down. Storytellers used rhyme and repetition when telling stories so that they would be passed down from generation to generation, sometimes in languages that never had a written form.
But there are always those rebels. Those who think they are pushing the boundaries of whatever area they are already in, who, with free verse as a legitimate poetic form. But you and I know, that without the lyrical qualities of rhythm, meter and rhyme, most songs, and poetry, fall flat.
The classic lines of poetry that I can remember, generally come from rhyming poetry.
True in poetry. But sometimes I rhyme and sometimes I commit the poetic crime. NOT to rhyme! Have a happy and healthy New Year filled with love and blessings from above! 💝!
