The swift doth soar o'er moor and vale
A weeping willow bowed in grim austerity
No sound was heard on yon green hill
Save the trickle of a tear , escaping from an eye
No welcome here for the tired warrior's soul
Bar the bitter refrain of a melancholy air
Muted cries of victory , long since dowsed
Shrouded in an altered landscape of doom
A wounded heart hallowed with pain
Reminders of a time smote with a cross
The pale moon of time rose in the ether
Rustling death echoed in the gorge
The ministrel played a solitary tune
Of love once known in a faraway land
The vine doth spread o'er wall and tree
And the landscape altered , the day hope died

Interesting poem. Has some very good lines in it. Stirs the mind, and that is the point of art, always, to stir us up, to wake us up, to move our thoughts along new lines, to change our pace, to bring newness of color and texture to our inner lives.
The day hope died ... for me, that was April 17, 2004. And hope was resurrected 3 days later.
Peter, this is a truly masterful piece of work. Penetrating, resonate, powerfully expressive, haunting, riveting. "A wounded heart hallowed with pain..."-- so many memorable lines here. Wonderful reread!
It doth have an olde ring of warrior's wounded return.

"Altered Landscape" came with an otstanding imagery in a cadence of the music of Poetry's harmony. The head, the body, arms and legs of this "Altered Landscape" just need to be recited, and a Poem will walk.
