" Beware the Ides of March "

................................................

Can you feel the pain  and torture

of our battle scarred Earth

rattling in her death throes

do you see the writing on the wall

the hand has written, and will not be denied

the wind cries with mournful eyes

and the seas rage like a tempest

pestilence and plague blight the land

and new devices are arriving every day

tomorrow may never come

you shouldn't be so cocksure

we reap what we sow

and we have sowed the seeds of destruction

within the hearts of men

and murdered the souls of all living creatures

one billion people hate our guts

and won't rest until we are dead

your windows are darkened with nuclear winter

and cataclysmic proliferation is all around

your neighbour won't even acknowledge you

and your friend spits in your eye

the organs of organised religion

has set man apart from man

and our leaders and guides

are as corrupt and deviant as hell

don't you see the signs, symbols and tokens

strewn and laid across our paths and byeways

or has the hedgerows blurred and blinded your vision

the tools of death and mortification

are engraved upon the stone and pestle

our rivers are flowing with burning, acrid sulphur

cordite and stench fills the nostrils and the air

decaying corpses lie bloated on the streets

our cities and towns buried under the foaming sea

the darkened skies laden with acid rain

seared skin  peeling from our frightened faces

and you don't even know my name

the snake is slithering on its belly

and is poised and ready to strike with pain

take cover, and run for shelter

you are between a rock and a hard place

overhead the missiles and projectiles are flying

heading straight for you and me

keep your shape and form my friend

and look out for the ricochets

the shit has hit the fan

A lot of truth in this very well penned mirror of this world.

Excellent commentary in poetic format on the state of our earth. The abuse of many centuries is showing, but I believe like the Eskimoes when scientists say it is global warming, the Eskimoes say it is the "thousand-year cycle." Tracing it all back in history, it all resonates. Earth is tired and worn. Time for changes and tattoo would say to Roarke, "de plane, de plane, smiles everyone!"
Fantasy Island will return!

You've covered a lot of ground herein Peter.
A timely, resonate write; shit has already begun to hit the fan indeed--- and amazingly, too many people STILL don't get it...
Very well done. Now rest; go take a nature walk while you still can.
Peace,
Carolyn

Yes indeed, the shit certainly has hit the fan, unfortunately it seems to be blinding most, thankfully there are those of us who wear goggles lol. Right up my dark and doom laden street Peter.

Isn't it amazing how all poets here seem to have the same foreboding call for change or doom?

You wrote the facts and we need to listen.

I sadly believe that all of the above is true, Peter, and I truly wonder what our very grim future now holds.

The Poet has depicted the obeservation of his eyes, and described what was heard and listened by his ears... This is a glowing composition to stand and witness the century and make history for the millennia.

To show my appreciation for the "Eve of Destruction" I will light a candle of admiration by the author's PEDESTAL AT THE BASILICA OF THE SUBLIME POETS IN HELICON.

TODAY IS THE DAY FOR MAKING ENIMIES COME INTO
FRIENDSHIP AND FRIENDS INTO BROTHERHOOD.

I salute You, Poet Peter Paton.
