They took away the whole Cherokee nation
And put us on this reservation.

They took away our way of life
Our tomahawk and huntin' knife
And the old teepee we all loved so
They're using now just for a show
They put our papoose in a crib
and took the buck skin from our rib
And they took away our native tongue
and taught their English to our young

Hiya, hiya, ho! Hiya hi, hiya ho!
Hiya, hiya, Hiya ho!

Altho' they changed our ways of old
They'll never change our heart and soul
And tho' I wear a white man's tie
I'll be a red man till I die

All the beads we made by hand
are nowadays made in Japan

............................................................................

" I have returned, and we are no longer sick men "

........................................................

A solitary warrior stands on the shimmering horizon,
he will hear once more the beating drums and the songs his brothers sang.
Our many nations will return and range from shore to shore
and the buffalo will be numberless again on the wild plains

The Trail of Tears will become The Trail of Light
We will share our food and our land and give with open hearts,
We want peace and love and hope for all men and women
We who still remain hold our heads up high, and the spirits of
the elders flow through us as if they never died.
Our dreams will live on forever and our nations will be reborn, our bone and
beads and feathers all will be proudly worn.
If you listen close you will hear the drums and songs upon the winds, and in
the distance you will see....the buffalo roam again

And I, The Great Spirit will unite the Cherokee Nation again.

Thank you on behalf of a Cherokee Indian. Such a true concept, you do embrace the spirit of what it means to be of the tribe, it is a feeling you get with nature, where your spirit can touch the skies and run along the waters. Beautiful and very touching. I absolutely love your work, so insightful and touching.

I truly hope that's true - and oddly enough, I just posted a Native American piece, too.

The Cherokee nations is a nation of pride and love, respect and genuine care for this world. Where did the whiteman fail? I think it was with greed. Very well written poem with the wisdom of the Cherokee.

"The Return of the Cherokee" is a stimulating and instructive historical piece.

This makes me dive through the TERRORIST SEA of the Greek Roman Empire "Roman Curia and Canterbury" and its affiliated lakes, ALL DENOMINATIONS – Catholic and Christians in America, including KKK, and their POGROM against the aborigine Nations of what they call today "OUR PROVINCES IN THE AMERICAS"... We can’t think of our aborigine Nations without recalling the terrorism and the POGROM organized by Christians against them.

A composition that adds a page of history to Poetry, and gives the reader a subject to talk, – and guidelines to ask for JUSTICE – and the rights of the aborigine Nations in the JURISDICTION of this Republic, The United States of America.

"The Return of the Cherokee" paid its dues to Poetry, and the author has completed a commendable social poetic mission.

Never rest Your pen, Poet!

Gratefully,

Excellent write, Peter. I live in a land of many Nations and I love the way that each of them celebrate life and their love and respect for the land. In a couple of weeks we have the "Gathering of Nations" celebration here in New Mexico; it is truly an amazing event. We called them savages yet in the end it was us who ravaged and wasted, poluted and destroyed. Happy Easter, Peter!
Take care,
Sherry

Good song by Paul Revere and the Raiders followed by an even wiser pen. We Americans often fail to realize that we attempted genocide in this country long before Hitler did. The Cherokee's were a far better governing people than we were at that time in history. They befriended us and we crapped on them. I would like to see an investigation as to ordered their (Trail Of Tears) and remove one and all from any status of greatness history may have given them.

In Dakota was the first time I met Indians, infact the only time, and they still are a proud and wise people....

Hollywood did rather unfairly taint them..
Only people who can legally take an eagles feather.
May they and their ways never leave..

Beautiful Peter. Again, thank you precious angel for your support. Me and my ex went on a three year journey making crafts and learned sooooo much about the culture. I have been in many, many nations circles, knowing them all over America. They are beautiful and are so deeply kind. Yes, you have the ghettos, which break my heart. Some are alcoholic, I believe because a spirit cleansing must take place. One time I was at a gathering, they wereplacing the cedar around the medicine wheel, when two elders began to cry, looking up, we all saw a pair of golden eagles, and on the other side of the telephone wire was a huge red tail hawk. We all began to cry and have goose bumps..!!!!!!!!!!It meant Grandfather Great Spirit came to bless the Pow Wow. Many Indians are misstreated in their own reservations, too. Have you ever heard of the political prisoner name Leanerd Pieltier?? I think the skeletans in the US justice system are only obvious. Anyway, one day I was in Dunkirk, Alabama for a pow wow. There was a cheif from the nation of Cherokees in North Carolina. Also there was the master of cerimony named Dane Scott. A man 3/4 Cherokee. My RV was covered with doves above the tree. I asked him if he named spiritual names to people. Yes he said. Then he looked at me and said, I'll see you at the Pow Wow tomarrow. I was dressed in complte buck skin head to toe. He told me, I just spoke to one of the cheifs of the Cherokee nation and you JoAnne are named Dove. Wherever I have gone I have felt forver that medicine of peace. They lay two eggs, which two respresnts peace. As far as the many nations ( they do not like to be called tribes) anyway, I have seen their spiritual struggles along with their own demons they fight like all of us. All in all, they are a nation that deserves human rights. I am very active and have been for thier social causes. I suppose that is why the leaders (past) have come to me seeking to channel through me.Why I am so bonded with The Black Hills and the Lakots, time will tell. Your write shows your depths of compassion. Have a wonderful day and again, Peter, your a true angel for caring so mcu about Angelina. Her name (half her name spells angel..

(((Love And Intercession, JoAnne )))
