I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all

Judy Collins

...........................................................................................................................

I was leisurely strolling through the leafy park, along the beech lined avenue of gold

a steep incline uphill, towards the vantage point of the flagpole

re-evaluating all my merging perspectives and streams of thought

a wood pigeon eyed me nervously from its safe perch

its psychological cooing, reviving memories of childhood grace

when I ran down the steep grassy slope, gathering pace and momentum as I went

with my loving Mom and Dad, looking on anxiously from the side wings

God, how I wish they were still here, just when I need them most

a teardrop glistened in my eye, when I thought of their self sacrifice for me

just like Jesus died on the Cross, for the sins that we all bear

I climbed the concrete steps, that led to the floral geranium garden

spectacular splashes of red and vermillion, greeted my eager eye

I paused at the Halabja tree, in commemoration of the fallen Kurds

who were cruelly gassed, by that madman Saddam Hussein

and said a silent prayer for the repose of their souls

knowing full well, that genocide and horror must be opposed

as energetic cotton tail rabbits, played with gay abandon on the manicured lawns

I walked on to the focal apex, to view the magnificent all points panorama

gathering in all the diverse messages, that were flooding my soul

black and white magpies, were chattering in the plane trees

as two little boys went whizzing by, on expensive skateboards

leaving me wondering, what future lies in store for them

and as I headed back down, to grim reality in surburbia

relinquishing once more my fleeting sense of sacred sanctuary

a puffing jogger passed me in mobile agony

you know, I could never understand such self flaggelation

far better to pace yourself, in harmony with your environment

taking those joyful navigations, in glorious perambulations

and as I strode serenly, across the freshly mown grass

I breathed in that superb and invigorating aroma

while overhead, pendulous clusters of horse chestnut blooms

emitted their sweet and succulent fragrance of summer

it dawned on me, without prior warning or signal

that love in all its baffling complexities

is really looking for yourself in others

Your last three lines summed this piece up so neatly.. and I too enjoyed the walk...sometimes things are really so simple but we just don't see it..)

... that, and the search for one's eternal complementing elements, perhaps. At least a quest for spiritual and emotional compatibility which ensures a mutual free exchange of all that pertains to personal stratas of life and growth. I LIKE how you walk the walk and talk the talk as you go about your daily life, Peter; others would just be making lists in their heads of groceries or complaints...!! :)) K xx

This was a beautiful, relaxing experience, walking along with you in thought, every now and then drifting off with our own thoughts, just to return. A beautiful write with a great message.

While looking at the mirror others provide, take the time to see the reflection of you in them...just as a part of you is reflected in each who reads and enjoys your daily journeys of the heart...your sanctuary. Mine are sanctuary too, and I am often bombarded by thought triggered by nature and memories ...or my inevitable imagination and dreams of what is to come kick in. The perfect time to set all elase aside.

TY Peter.

Love,

Taylor

You have captured the essence of living, and letting live, in this profound and insightful piece dear friend.

The unfolding of circumstance, and how it plays upon the senses, and how it often changes our perspective from moment to moment. One thing leads to another, which leaves impressions that generate thought ... allowing imagination to dip it's pen into the ink of expression so we may continue to bless others.

The linear propulsion of always looking forward and never back, and always knowing where you stand in conjunction to those around us.

You have strength of conviction that beggars equal Sir Peter and you do it with the finesse of wind and leaves!

Blessings to you dear Poet ...

So many times I have taken such strolls, reflecting on the world and my place in it. Self reflection is always good. Your imagery in this one is so powerful, I felt myself walking along as your shadow. A very beautiful and well written bit of truth. I've missed your poetry, Peter, and very glad I had a moment to spare to come and read this one. Well Done! Liza

So true, Peter. This work is wonderful in its reflection and thanksgiving. Evaluation is good for the soul, indeed, necessary for true spiritual growth.

It sounds as if you've had a wonderful journey.

And the song is one of my favorites.

Peter: I'm not sure if a photo would be painted as brilliantly as your pen here. Your love gives everything that extra shine that comes from within you. If you were to be a star you would shine so we'd all know where to find you. This is beautiful...well, actually...beautiful doesn't do it justice.

I echo Rhonda's pearls of wisdom and comments. I saw just the opposite take on love when I saw the selfsacrificing acts of my wife and learned what true love was from her that I didn't see in my self.

I really enjoyed this offering, Peter. When you sit down to compose, it seems that you use your complete soul to pick and peck around to find the pertinent words, not worrying about style or meter or nothing except what you are feeling at the moment. And what you are feeling at the moment is usually right on the money.

Phenomenal write! What you value in yourself.....you will cherish in others. Truer words, you have not spoken, Peter.

This is another of your eloquent ascents, to a vantage point...where you always see what lies before you so clearly, and then your return, to the path below, brings your Readers incredible nuggets of Wisdom & Truth.

Absolute perfection in this one!
